Review : Barclays ATP Tennis World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena – 15th to 22th November 2015

For the seventh year, the ATP Tennis World Tour Finals season-ending showdown will be taking place from 15-22 November at The O2 in London, featuring only the world’s best eight qualified singles players and doubles teams.
All eight qualification spots in singles and doubles will be at stake throughout the season as the world’s top players battle throughout the season for a chance to compete for the last title of the year in London.  The draw of the World’s top players such as Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and  Rafael  Nadal  constantly attract large crowds to the O2.

Last year’s tournament  was a record-breaking year  in which the event set an overall attendance of 263,560, the biggest in the 45-year history of the tournament. The total six-year attendance since the event moved to London in 2009 stands at 1,548,245. And with a record 101 million TV viewers tuning in across the eight days of competition in 2014, a 24% increase on the previous year, the tournament’s worldwide following continues to grow.This year’s tournament will offer an US$ 7 million in prize money. The prestigious event has been contested in major cities around the world with a rich history dating back to the birth of The Masters in 1970 in Tokyo. Since 2000, the event has taken place in cities such as Lisbon, Sydney and Shanghai, before moving to London in 2009. The announcement was made at the beginning of the tournament that the tournament would remain at The O2 in London through to 2018.

The final places are confirmed with Rafael Nadal,  Tomas Berdych, David Ferrer, Kei Nishikori  competing alongside Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka at the prestigious season finale.
Double teams who have qualified are Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau, Jamie Murray and John Peers, Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo,Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut, Marcin Matkowski and Nenad Zimonjic and finally Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea.

Local hero, Jamie Murray and Australian John Peers had to battle in the first session   when they won their Group opener at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals on Sunday, The fourth seeds held their nerves in the Match tie-break to beat fifth-seed Italian Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini 7-6(5), 3-6, 11-9.

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic recorded his 79th match win of the season with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 victory over eighth seed Kei Nishikori in their Group match.

Each day has an afternoon and evening session which features one singles match and one doubles match,  unlike Wimbledon it is possible to get tickets online for the various matches. The atmosphere is more upbeat than Wimbledon with bright lights and music being part of the action. The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals offer the rare opportunity to see the best male single and doubles tennis players in action with the O2 providing plenty of food and drink options.

Important information:

Following the tragic events in Paris on Friday night, there was a minute’s silence before the matches and there will be enhanced security operations in place around this year’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. No food or drink will be allowed into the arena itself and all bags will be searched.  No bags larger than a small laptop bag or handbag will be permitted in The O2 during the tournament

Please allow extra time for security checks.
