RHS Gardens near London Summer Events Programme – June to August 2017

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) presents a number of exciting talks and events at its gardens this summer, the two nearest to London are the RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey and RHS Garden Hyde Hall in Essex.

June

1-4 June: Family Gardening Show, RHS Garden Wisley

The whole family can enjoy this fantastic event which will see fascinating talks, workshops and a special In The Night Garden zone, hosting plenty of children’s activities.

17-18 June: Plant Society Show, RHS Garden Wisley

A chance to chat to the experts for plant advice while enjoying lovely displays of colourful and unusual plants from specialist societies. There will also be plant care demonstrations and the opportunity to purchase plants and seeds which aren’t widely available.

17-18 June: Rose Weekend, RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Discover RHS Garden Hyde Hall in full bloom this weekend which offers a series of walks and talks showcasing the beautiful Rose Garden.

24 June-30 July: Surrey Sculpture Society Exhibition, RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Discover the range of creations showcasing a huge variety of materials and styles from the Surrey Sculpture Society as it returns to the gardens for this delightful exhibition.

July

1 July: Jazz Evening, RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Back by popular demand, the Sunshine Kings return for an evening of jazz as visitors sit back, relax and enjoy as they take in the stunning views of the garden.

1-31 July: Alison Catchlove Sculpture Exhibition, RHS Garden Wisley

An exhibition of Alison’s quirky nature-inspired sculptures will be on display around the garden throughout the month.

14-15 July: Summer Nights Film Screening, RHS Garden Wisley

A chance to experience your favourite films in the beautiful surroundings of RHS Garden Wisley with classics Greece and Top Gun.

15-16 July: Global Growth Vegetable Garden Opening Weekend, RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Join RHS Garden Hyde Hall to celebrate the opening of their major new garden development. Designed by Lady Xa Tollemache, the garden will harvest fruit and vegetables from around the world. There will be a variety of talks and tours, cooking demonstrations, and tastings taking place and little visitors can also discover salad dressing making.

15-16 July: ArtsFest, RHS Garden Wisley

This event celebrates the summer with music, dance, magic, craft and performances as it showcases the beautiful Garden in the summer.

22 July: Outdoor Cinema Evening – Bridesmaids, RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Partnering with Essex Outdoor Cinema, RHS Garden Hyde Hall will be screening this popular film for one evening only. Food and drink will also be available to buy or guests are welcome to bring their own picnic.

2017 celebrates 75 years since Enid Blyton’s very first Famous Five book, ‘Five On A Treasure Island’, was published. To mark the occasion the RHS has teamed up with Enid Blyton Entertainment and Hodder Children’s Books to offer a range of events and activities this summer, from themed crafts to garden games and storytelling.

3-6 Aug: Hyde Hall Flower Show, RHS Garden Hyde Hall

A beautiful presentation of specialist nurseries, floral displays and trade stands, including many RHS Chelsea Flower Show medal winners. There will be a shopping emporium of quality plants, a floral art marquee, an artist’s pavilion, a variety of food and drink plus live music – this show is not to be missed!

12 Aug: A Midsummer Night’s Dream Theatre Evening, RHS Garden Hyde Hall

The Pantaloons are back to give Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream a fresh twist. Guests can experience this new exciting performance as the sun sets over the gardens.

17 Aug: Summer Shopping Evening, RHS Garden Hyde Hall

A chance to browse the RHS Shop and Plant Centre’s summer sale offering up to 50% off and a chilled glass of prosecco for the early birds.

19 Aug-24 Sep: Surrey Sculpture Society Trail, RHS Garden Wisley

Visitors can take a late summer wander around Wisley with this unique art experience featuring over 60 sculptures by some of the South East’s finest artists.

20 Aug: Classic Car Day, RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Welcoming an array of local Classic and Sports Car Clubs, this event will see Jaguar Cars, Morgans, Porsches and Austin 7’s come together for car lovers and families alike.

Review : RHS London Harvest Festival Show at the RHS Horticultural Halls – 6th to 7th October 2015

On a cold wet grey day, it was a pleasure to attend the RHS London Harvest Festival Show. The RHS run a series of London shows throughout the year and always offer plenty of ideas and inspiration for visitors.

The RHS London Harvest Festival Show concentrates on mainly fruit and vegetables with plenty of traditional harvest festival fare. Many of the tables were decked out with a wonderful selection of fruit and vegetables which formed part of the RHS Fruit & Vegetable Competitions. The competition is keen and top class produce is entered for the prestigious prizes. One of the largest prizes ( £1000) is for the heaviest pumpkin competition and a number of monster pumpkins are on show.

But the show is not just about competitions, there are a series of events to entertain the visitors.

The RHS London Harvest Late, which will take place on 6 October, features fun with fruit and vegetables including brewing & foraging, pumpkin carving, along with music and a host of natural food and drink from organic producers to taste and try.

If you feel that you need a gardening boost before winter sets in, the RHS London Harvest Festival Show is a great value for money event.

The RHS London shows offer a wide range of  horticultural delights often created around a particular theme. the RHS London Harvest Festival Show features ideas and inspiration on late summer gardening and growing fruit and vegetables. The show offers plenty of  traditional harvest festival fare with some interesting food options.

Some of the best nurseries, growers and independent food producers in the UK will exhibit their produce in the RHS Fruit & Vegetable Competitions.

The competitions are free to enter, open to everyone and you could be in with a chance to win cups and prize money. The 1st prize for the heaviest pumpkin competition this year was £1,000.

RHS Garden Wisley Flower Show – 8th to 13th September 2015

One of the Royal Horticultural Society’s top gardens, RHS Garden Wisley is the location of the RHS Garden Wisley Flower Show which begins on the 8th September 2015. The six-day flower festival (8-13 September 2015) will offer visitors the chance to enjoy a wide  range of plants and flowers, seek the best gardening advice and explore the garden. RHS Ambassador Mary Berry opens this year’s show.

The flower show will be a late summer feast with 50 nurseries displaying and selling plants and more than 100 exhibitors competing for top prizes in the National Dahlia Society Annual Show.  Displays of floral art under the theme ‘Roll Up! Roll Up!’ by members of the Surrey area of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS) will be displayed in The Glasshouse.

National Dahlia Society Annual Show, 8 – 11 September

Admire the best in dahlia cultivation and colour as part of the RHS Wisley Flower Show. More than 100 exhibitors will be vying for top prizes in all classes with their stunning blooms. From 12 – 13 September, you can see a selection of dahlia displays from the National Dahlia Society and Pheasant Acre Plants.

Surrey NAFAS Floral Display, 8 – 13 September

The Surrey area of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS) will be exhibiting their stunning floral art creations under the theme ‘Roll up! Roll up!’ in the beautiful setting of the Glasshouse. Glasshouse open 10am – 5pm, last entry 4.45pm

Many of the UK’s best nurseries, including 28 RHS Chelsea Flower Show medal winners will attend. New nurseries at this year’s show include Beth Chatto’s Nursery with drought tolerant plants and Harkness Roses.

A varied programme of talks during the show will give visitors the chance to learn from the experts. Specialist nursery owners and RHS Garden Wisley team members will be on hand for advice.Talks throughout the show offer inspiration on a range of gardening topics, from Mediterranean gardening and orchid cultivation to how to control Britain’s number one pest – the slug. The show also offers the chance for free, authoritative gardening advice from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Visitors to the show can enjoy the bright and beautifully scented herbaceous borders and the creative inspiration of the Surrey Sculpture Society Trail. Around 60 sculptures from established and up-and-coming artists from across South East England will be on display throughout the garden and available to buy.

There are a number of meals available at the Wisley restaurant for the show, many using produce grown at Wisley itself.

Breakfast 9am–10.30am, £12 adult, £6 child

Lunch 12pm–2.30pm, £24 adult, £8 child

Afternoon tea 3.30pm–5pm, £14 adult, £6 child

Free shuttle bus from Horsley Station

For those visiting the RHS Wisley Flower Show, there will be  a free shuttle bus from Horsley station every day of the show – buses will leave every 20 minutes throughout each day and it only takes 15 minutes each way. You’ll be dropped off in the heart of the garden near the Glasshouse where the NAFAS Floral Display is, and it is a short walk from the main exhibitor area.

The first shuttle bus will run from Horsley Station at 9.30am. The last shuttle bus from Wisley leaves from the rear of the Glasshouse at 5.15pm – note this is 45 minutes before the garden (and show) closes. Between 1.30pm and 3.30pm the service from Wisley to Horsley leaves every 30 minutes – at .00 and .30 minutes past the hour.
At Horsley the bus will pick up/drop off outside Horsley station on the forecourt. At Wisley the bus will pick up/drop off at the back of the Glasshouse near the South African Meadow. Bus stops will be clearly marked, as will the bus.

The shuttle bus is free for all visitors to Wisley – members and non-members. Shuttle bus users do not need to have a train ticket.

There will also be a Free shuttle bus from Woking Station

13  September: 9am – 5pm

Last entry one hour before closing.

Admission

Entry to the RHS Wisley Flower Show is free to RHS Members and one family guest. For non-RHS Members the show is included in normal garden admission.

Travel by train to RHS Wisley Flower Show and enjoy 25% off your garden entry ticket. Present your valid train ticket at the ticket office to claim your discount.
