Review : The London Boat Show 2018 at ExCel London – 10th to 14th January 2018

The London Boat Show at the Excel Exhibition Centre provides a showcase of all things marine and is the first place to see the latest marine innovations, design and technology. The 2018 Show features the latest launches, products and marine brands, as well as offering a wide range of activities that will entertain the whole family.

Walking around the show offers some insight into some of the cutting edge developments in the marine world, the large yachts may take most of the attention with major launches from Princess Yachts and Sunseeker International amongst others. However with over 300 brands showcased there is plenty of interest especially if you are looking for a new boat, accessories, equipment or thinking of booking a holiday.

Back for its 64th year, the London Boat Show returns with a new format with five days of the very latest in the boating world, some of the attractions include the Beach Club & Activity Pool, The Adventure Park ,The Urban Beach Experience, 

Practical Boat Owner Theatre, the Legends Theatre, the iconic Black & White Bar and The Yachtsman’s Champagne Bar.

The show now incorporates the all-new Boating & Watersports Holiday Show with its own Lock & Waterside Pub, and an interactive area that recreates the inland waterways with a replica lock showcasing popular modes of inland waterway travel. River Cruisers and Narrowboats are featured and for more nostalgia, visit the Classic Boats which showcases some iconic classic yachts.

The Show is lined with boardwalks; where manufactures, brokers and retailers bring their latest models of power and sail boats. Visitors can walk freely up and down the boardwalks and hop on and off various boats, speak to representatives and learn more about the various boats.

Throughout the show there will be a number of events and activities including award ceremonies, talks and quiz shows, shows, celebrities and sporting personalities.

The opening day highlights included HRH The Princess Royal presenting the Yachtmaster of the Year award and football legend Sir Geoff Hurst opening the Sunseeker International stand with the famous Jules Rimet Trophy.

The 64th London Boat Show offers an impressive display of products and numerous interactive attractions to entertain marine enthusiasts and visitors who want find out more about the world of boating.

The show runs from the 10th until the 14th January at the ExCel London Exhibition centre, there is a large range of food and drink option both outside and inside the show.

Review : BRICK 2015 London at the ExCel Exhibition Centre – 11th to 13th December 2015

If you love LEGO,  there is only one place to be in London this weekend, the ExCel Exhibition Centre will be the location of millions of pieces of LEGO when BRICK 2015  opens between the 11th to 13th of December.

Brick 2015 is the UK’s biggest LEGO show and gets into the festive spirit with a Merry Brickmas area, with Christmas themed displays, winter white brick pits and plenty of ideas for LEGO Christmas gifts for all ages.

The exhibition has a small Museum of LEGO history, The LEGO company is over 60 years old and some of the first sets are on display in the Museum, surprisingly the early sets are made of wood not plastic and included train sets. From  those humble beginnings has grown a global brand that has conquered the world.

A walk around Brick 2015 provides some of the reasons for LEGO’s success, the bricks have a remarkable versatility  that allows people to build basic models or some of the amazing models on show at the event.

One of the highlights of the show is the model of Hogwarts with Harry Potter standing in front, however you also have the history of transport in LEGO form with over 120 LEGO ships, planes and vehicles.

The Wonders of the World in LEGO include the Pyramids and many other buildings, At the centre of the show is the Fan Zone which features some great displays by some of the World’s best LEGO builders, there is  opportunity to see these creations up close and meet the people who build them!

Looking at the amazing displays is only one part of the show,  for the second year running, Guinness World Records is partnering with BRICK and will be attending this year’s events in London. At Brick 2015, there will be several individual challenges ready for you to take part in and perhaps break a world record.

BRICK 2015 is also a place to buy LEGO  with a partnership with Toys’R’Us  to open a large LEGO pop up store.

This show provides lots of LEGO related entertainment for all age groups and is an ideal pre-Christmas treat for children, there is plenty of opportunities to look at the large number of displays or relax and build your own models.

BRICK 2015 London at the ExCel Exhibition Centre – 11th to 13th December 2015

 One Christmas present that never goes out of fashion is the Lego brick, the ExCel Exhibition Centre will be the location of millions of pieces of LEGO when BRICK 2015 comes to London on the 11th to 13th of December. Brick 2015 is the UK’s biggest LEGO show and gets into the festive spirit with a Merry Brickmas area, with Christmas themed displays, winter white brick pits and plenty of ideas for LEGO Christmas gifts for all ages. One of the highlights of the show will be Brick Flicks in which Warren Elsmore recreates iconic movie scenes recreated in LEGO. Brick Flicks recreates 60 famous movies from  ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (1939), up to  ‘The Life of Pi’ (2012). This scenes feature action, comedy, drama, science fiction and more and celebrate of the versatility of LEGO.

 For the second year running, Guinness World Records is partnering with BRICK and will be attending this year’s events in London. At Brick 2015, there will be several individual challenges ready for you to take part in and perhaps break a world record. If you are interested in the history of one of the World’s favourite toy, visit the Museum of LEGO history.

The LEGO company is over 60 years old and some of the first sets on display in the Museum, surprisingly the early sets are made of wood not plastic.

 At the centre of the show is the Fan Zone which features some great displays by some of the World’s best LEGO builders, the interactive fan zone is your chance to see these creations up close and meet the guys who build them! After last year’s World record breaking build, LEGO Minecraft is back and going to go even bigger, especially as LEGO has just unveiled its latest collection of four Minecraft play-sets.

Review : MCM London Comic Con at the ExCel Exhibition Centre – 23rd to 25th October 2015

If you are wandering around London in the next few days , do not be surprised to see some unusual sights because the ever popular MCM Expo London Comic Con returns to ExCel London on 23-25 October with a  line-up of special guests, games, sci-fi, comics, anime and cosplay content to entertain the show’s 60,000 plus visitors.

The Comic Con celebrates a wide range of media from television, film, comics and video games. It also attracts in large numbers those who want to dress up as their favourite character. London Comic Con is  the UK’s largest cosplay event and the centrepiece of this October’s show is the EuroCosplay Championship Finals, which sees contestants from more than 20 nations competing for the cosplay crown.

The show attracts a number of different type of visitors who have their own particular favourite genres whether it is television, films, comics, videogaming  and  numerous others.  Different parts of the show tend to feature a particular genre but everyone mixes well in the friendly and easygoing atmosphere.

Many visitors are attracted by the special guests from a wide range of film and television including members of the cast of Sherlock, Doctor Who, Humans, The Walking Dead, Da Vinci’s Demons, Thunderbirds, Jekyll and Hyde and many more.

MCM London Comic Con attracts a large number of games developers including Bandai Namco, Koei Tecmo, Rising Star Games and Ubisoft who are bringing their new & upcoming games, there is also a section for independent developers in the Go Indie Games! area.

MCM London Comic Con at the ExCel Exhibition Centre – 23rd to 25th October 2015

The ever popular MCM Expo London Comic Con returns to ExCel London on 23-25 October with a  line-up of special guests, games, sci-fi, comics, anime and cosplay content to entertain the show’s 60,000 plus visitors.

The Comic Con celebrates a wide range of media from television, film, comics and video games. It also attracts those who want to dress up as their favourite character in the Cosplay areas.

Some of the special guests include Doctor Who’s Matt Smith, Jeffrey Demunn and Andrew Rothenburg, stars of hit zombie apocalypse series The Walking Dead, Tony Amendola and Roger Cross from  new Canadian sci-fi police show Continuum. Tony Amendola is also at the show for fantasy drama Once Upon At Time, alongside fellow cast member Keegan Connor Tracy. Keegan plays The Blue Fairy in the fairytale-inspired show, while Tony takes on the role of Geppetto. A Town Called Eureka creator, writer and executive producer Jaime Paglia.  is joined by Colin Ferguson and Tembi Locke, who play Sheriff Jack Carter and Dr. Grace Monroe in the popular sci-fi show.

Many of the top video game producers bring their latest games to the show. This year this includes Nintendo who will be giving visitors the opportunity to try out their revolutionary new Wii U console ahead of its public release later this year. Ubisoft will be bringing the much-anticipated Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, first person shooter Far Cry 3 and Wii U survival horror game ZombiU.
Iconic games characters Agent 47 and Lara Croft both return as Square Enix shows off Hitman: Absolution and their upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.

In the Anime, comics, cosplay  and other attractions, Best-selling British sci-fi author Peter Hamilton  celebrates the launch of his latest novel, Great North Road.There will be a revamped JapanEx area, with the addition of food stalls giving visitors a taste of Japanese culture.

London Triathlon at the ExCel Exhibition Centre – 8th and 9th August 2015

Taking place in East London on 8th & 9th August 2015, the AJ Bell London Triathlon is the world’s largest triathlon attracting over 13,000 triathletes of all abilities & 30,000 spectators.

Part of its sucess is the variety of distances available as well as the team relay option, there’s something for triathletes of all abilities.

Super Sprint
Distances: 400m swim, 10km bike, 2.5k run

Sprint
Distances: 750m swim, 20km bike, 5k run

Olympic
Distances: 1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10k run

Olympic Plus
Distances: 1.5km swim, 80km bike, 10k run

Team Relay
Distances: Sprint – 750m swim, 20km bike, 5k run or Olympic – 1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10k run

About: The Team Relay option is a fantastic introduction to the sport as it allows you to take on the Sprint or Olympic distance with friends or colleagues. The premise of the Team Relay is relatively simple, a team is made up of three people and one person completes each of the three disciplines.

Senior Elite
Distances: Olympic – 1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10k run

About: The Elite field is reserved for crème de la crème of the triathlon world. Every year the event features some of the most competitive athletes in the sport including World Champions and Olympians. The elite race is part of the British Triathlon Super Series and provides the ideal platform for up and coming stars to challenge the established triathletes for the top podium spots at the world’s largest triathlon.

Junior Elite
Distances: 750m swim, 26k bike, 5k run

Youth Super Sprint
Distances: 400m swim, 10km bike, 2.5k run

The bike and run route take place on closed roads, which will allow competitors to race on traffic-free roads. The AJ Bell London Triathlon Expo will take place in the ExCeL Centre over the course of the event weekend, giving participants and spectators the opportunity to trial and buy a range of different products from the large array of brands exhibiting their products.

Spectators

The race is concentrated around the iconic ExCeL Centre, the AJ Bell London Triathlon is a  spectator friendly event. The transition area and finish line are actually inside the ExCeL Centre.

Bike
Spectators can view the bike section from the west entrance of ExCeL (before the multi storey car park). Both the walkways from the DLR at Custom House Station and Prince Regent Station to ExCeL or from under the Fox pub at ground level are also great viewing points.
Spectators can line the South Colannade in the heart of Canary Wharf, where there are plenty of shops and eateries to keep you entertained whilst you wait.

Run
The run course can be viewed anywhere outside the east of ExCeL as the route stretches along the north edge of the dock. The run route also loops through the Expo so you can also see the runners from inside the ExCeL Centre.

Swim
The swim area can be viewed from the Dockside which can be accessed from either side of ExCeL.

The London Bike Show at the ExCel Exhibition Centre – 12th to 15th Feb 2015

The London Bike Show is the UK’s premier cycling exhibition. Whether road cycling, mountain biking, BMX, cycle cross, a family cycle at the weekend or commuting to work there will be plenty to interest you at the show
As well as being able to see the latest bikes, clothing, components and accessories, you will also be able to enjoy fantastic attractions free of charge (excluding Training Hub where premium tickets are required).

From 1-2-1 assessments through to stunt displays, there will be entertainment for the whole family

The Cycling Performance Theatre – Sponsored by British Eurosport, will return in 2015 with a mix of pro cyclists, former pros, coaches, nutrition experts, team launches and more. Hear inspiring stories, take advantage of insider knowledge and take note of any tips and advice our speakers have to offer.

The pros from the Action Sports Tour will be returning to The London Bike Show in 2015. The guys will be doing multiple demos each day mixing incredible skill, control and balance with some spectacular aerial action – creating a fantastic spectacle to watch.

Street Velodrome is the World’s most accessible form of cycle sport. With a national televised series touring the UK in 2015 which allows complete amateurs to race and compete alongside Olympic and elite level riders on equal terms.

The Show will be home to the 500m Bikes Etc Test Track, providing the perfect opportunity to try out the latest bikes before you make the all important decision of which one (if any) you’d like to purchase.

Under 10s can try out the latest range of kids bikes on the market from a variety of manufacturers on our Kids Test Track.

Are you considering venturing into the world of electric bikes but don’t know where to start? Here’s your chance to try out a range of models.

There will be a there will be a variety of electric bike brands and a number of bikes available to take for test ride on the test 500m track.

A ticket to the Show will also give you access to the Triathlon Show: London, The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show and the London International Dive Show (Sat & Sun).
