The Phantom of the Opera is the hit musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Charles Hart with additions from Richard Stilgoe. The show is based on the French novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra by Gaston Leroux, its central plot revolves around a beautiful soprano, Christine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius living in the subterranean labyrinth beneath the Palais Garnier.
The musical opened in London’s West End in 1986, and on Broadway in 1988. It is the longest running show in Broadway history and isthe second longest-running West End musical, after Les Misérables, and the third longest-running West End show overall, after The Mousetrap.
Now in its 26th record-breaking year, this multi-award winning musical continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, after more than 10,000 performances.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mesmerising score along with remarkable scenery and breathtaking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life each night.
