Inspired by the genius of Roald Dahl, with original songs from comedian Tim Minchin, Matilda is the captivating musical masterpiece from the RSC that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dares to change her destiny.
Matilda the Musical is a stage musical based on the children’s novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. It was adapted by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.
The musical’s narrative centres on Matilda, a precocious 5-year-old girl with the gift of telekinesis who loves reading, overcomes obstacles caused by her family and school, and helps her teacher to reclaim her life.
The show received its West End premiere in 2011 at the Cambridge Theatre and its Broadway premiere in 2013.
Matilda has received widespread critical acclaim and box-office popularity, the show is currently running in London’s West End, touring Australia, and touring the United States. It is due to tour the UK and Ireland in 2018.
