Premiums Interim Projects at the Royal Academy present an opportunity to view new work by 13 second year students at the interim point of their postgraduate study at the RA Schools, the UK’s longest established art school. The RA Schools was founded in 1769, and are unique in offering the only three-year postgraduate programme in Europe. Perhaps more unusually, there are no fees and there is no curriculum but they centre the course around the specific needs of each individual artist.
The show showcases the talents of the next generation of artists with each student offering their own particular vision of contemporary art with a diversity of approaches including sculpture, photography, performance art, digitally-rendered landscapes, archival material and video.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Roland Carline, Mark Corfield-Moore, Ben Doherty, Lucy Evetts, Charlie Fegan, Gina Fischli, Tom Langley, Deborah Olakigbe, Will Pham, Josh Pye, Marianne Thoermer, Sung Tieu and Issy Wood.
This free exhibition will be displayed throughout various locations in Burlington House as a result of the redevelopment of the Royal Academy, which will be completed in time for its 250th anniversary in 2018.
In many ways the exhibition gives some insight into how the Royal Academy pays homage to its illustrious past but is often at the forefront of promoting contemporary art in London.
Many of the students created their own particular narratives that offer a complex array of ideas and objects, throughout the exhibition there is plenty of interest and for anyone interested in collecting contemporary art, many of the works are for sale.
