The London International Horse Show which takes place at Olympia from 13th to 19th December has become a pre-Christmas tradition for those interested in the equestrian world.
Olympia has a long tradition of holding International horse shows, the first one was held in 1907, however the London International Horse Show was created in 1972. One of the main reasons for its popularity is there is fun for all the family with a variety of entertainments as well as world-class Show Jumping, Dressage and Driving.
The world’s best Show Jumping riders take part in a number of competitions over the seven days of competition in a variety of classes, the compact course is a test for rider and horse especially in timed jump offs.
There are competitions in a number of disciplines which test animal and human, one of the most popular events is Kennel Club Dog Agility competitions. Dogs race around a specially designed course which challenge both dogs and their owners.
Another favourite is the Shetland Pony Grand National, Shetland ponies and their young riders race round the arena at a furious pace to be crowned the winner.
Most sessions feature Extreme Driving which features the top carriage drivers in the world hurtling around the compact course to post their quickest time, considerable skill is needed to control four galloping horses and the carriage.
This year there will be International displays by Santi Serra and the Portuguese Lusitanos
The show finishes with the Christmas Finale which is a singing and dancing extravaganza.
The show has afternoon and evening performances with occasional morning performances.
There is plenty of other entertainment and a shopping village that has over 250 shops selling a massive range of goods from all things equestrian, to fashion, jewellery, wines, gifts, novelty items, and fine art.
The London International Horse Show offers an attractive mix of top class sport and family fun which appeals to people of all ages. The event is especially popular with families who bring their children for a pre – Christmas treat. The different sessions have slightly different performances, so it is well worth checking what is available.
