Spectacular outside Ice skating rinks in London – November 2016 to February 2017



In the dark winter days, Ice skating is one of London’s favourite winter pastimes and some of the capital’s most iconic sites set up temporary ice rinks. The Natural History Museum, The Tower of London, Hampton Court and Somerset House provide spectacular historical backdrops whilst the City of London and Canary Wharf allow you to glide about underneath the skyscrapers. The rinks cater for skaters of all levels and ages and usually have other events and food and drink options. Here is a selection of the more spectacular rinks but other ones do pop up all over the city.

Natural History Museum Ice Rink

27 October 2016 – 8 January 2017

Opening times vary

Core hours 11.00-21.00

Skate sessions last 50 minutes

Experience the thrill of skating surrounded by fairy lights nestled in frost-covered trees, with the smell of mulled wine and toasted marshmallows in the air.

The Café Bar is open daily and offers tasty meals, snacks and refreshments, including hot drinks and a range of wines, beers and soft drinks.

Skate at Somerset House Ice Rink

From 17th November 2016 – 15th January 2017. 

Skate highlights in 2016 include:

 Club Nights: This year Somerset House presents an all-new line-up of Club Nights, with DJs from internationally renowned festivals, clubs, record labels and radio stations taking to the rink-side booth.

Morning Gloryville: For the first time, Somerset House will collaborate with Morning Gloryville to bring their distinctive brand of dawn disco dancing parties to the ice.

Jazz Skate: EFG London Jazz Festival will return to host a Sunday afternoon Jazz Skate on 20 November.

Fortnum’s Christmas Arcade: A rink-side shopping pop-up, stocked with a selection of festive presents from Fortnum’s flagship store on Piccadilly.

Fortnum’s Lodge: A cosy setting for all-day dining and socialising, serving a menu of Fortnum’s favourite festive food and drinks.

Skate Lounge: New for 2016, the Skate Lounge will serve a selection of Jägermeister long drinks and cocktails in a rustic alpine setting.

Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink

From  25th November 2016 to 8th January 2017

Enjoy some festive fun on the ice in glorious Tudor surroundings.The outdoor ice rink at Hampton Court Palace offers spectacular views of the red brick Tudor front of King Henry VIII’s magnificent palace, on the banks of the historic river Thames.Book an evening session to see the stunning palace lit up after dark while you skate under the evening stars!

The Dip Dunk Lodge provides a welcome place to warm up after your skate, serving a selection of winter drinks and festive snacks.

Tower of London Ice Rink

From 16th November 2016 to 3rd January 2017

The Tower of London offers some festive fun and spectacular views when you glide on the ice in the shadow of one of the great historical buildings of London.

The Dip Dunk Lodge provides a welcome place to warm up after your skate, serving a selection of winter drinks and festive snacks.

Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park

18th November 2016 – Monday 2nd January 2017

UK’s largest outdoor Ice Rink is located around the picturesque Victorian bandstand, on which there will be live music played throughout the day and night.

Ice Rink timings (50min session):

10.00am, 11.00am, 12.00pm, 1.00pm, 2.00pm,

3.00pm, 4.00pm, 5.00pm, 6.00pm, 7.00pm, 8.00pm, 9.00pm

Broadgate Ice Rink

From 14th November 2016 to 2nd February 2017

Broadgate Ice Rink returns on 16 November 2015 for another fantastic season of Skating in the heart of the City of London.

Just a two-minute walk from Liverpool Street Station and Broadgate Circle, London’s longest running outdoor rink is surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants.


Adult: £13.50

Children: £9.50 (aged 4-13)

Family: £36.50 (2 adults + 2 children or 1 adult + 3 children)

4th November 2016 to 25th February 2017

Enjoy Skating under the skyscrapers in London’s financial centre, surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants.

Monday – Thursday: 10am – 10.15pm

Friday: 10.30am – 10.45pm

Saturday: 9.30am – 10.45pm

Sundays & Bank Holidays: 10am – 9pm

Ticket Prices

Valid for one hour session and includes skate hire.

Adult/Teen (13yrs and over): £14.50
