Australia will play New Zealand in the World Cup final in a highly anticipated showdown of two of the best rugby teams in the world, remarkably the two great Antipodean rivals have never met before in a World Cup final.
Both teams had to dig deep to get through tough semi finals and fitness and injuries may still play a part in the outcome of the final. The Wallabies’ David Pocock was outstanding for Australia and fly-half Bernard Foley’s kicking has been key to get them to the final, however the star of the semi final was Adam Ashley-Cooper who became only the second man to score three tries in a World Cup semi-final.
The way that the All Blacks beat South Africa in their semi final suggests they have the all round game to retain the Webb Ellis trophy, if they do they would be the first team to achieve this feat. Dan Carter’s kicking and Ben Smith have been outstanding in the tournament and New Zealand will start favourites for Saturday’s final . In what promises to be one of the classic finals, Twickenham will be the destination for the many fans of the Antipodean rivals and even the very expensive tickets will be scarce.
