Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is one of London’s most popular winter events, since the Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park event started in 2007, it has attracted around 17 million visitors. It will be returning to the park on 20th November for six weeks of winter festivities with even more entertainment and new attractions than before.
One of the reasons the event is so popular is there is free admission to the site and you only pay for the rides or attractions that you want to use. However, because of its popularity it does pay to book tickets for some of the bigger attractions especially Ice Skating, The Magical Ice Kingdom, the Giant Observation Wheel and Zippos Circus.
The Magical Ice Kingdom houses fantastical snow and ice sculptures. This year children and adults are invited to walk through the fairy forest to discover a frozen lake and the ice queen, explore the ice palace, sit on the thrones and slide down the castle slide. The many snow and ice sculptures which include magical princesses, frozen animals and ogres the Magical Ice Kingdom is the biggest ice and snow sculpture experience of its kind in the UK. Next to the Magical Ice Kingdom, sits Bar Ice, a small ice bar where you can enjoy a chilled cocktail.
The Ski Zillertal Ice Rink will once again be located around the picturesque Victorian Bandstand, on which there will be live music played throughout the day and night as skaters take to the ice for a spin. Stretching over 1,600m2 it is the UK’s largest outdoor ice rink. For those who want to gaze at the action from above, the Giant Observation Wheel will illuminate the skyline.
The always popular Zippos Circus returns with two shows – their daytime show for all the family, Zippos Christmas Circus – The Perfect Gift and an evening show for the more adult, Cirque Berserk. Housed in the Mega Dome which is the biggest circus venue in the UK standing over 65ft tall designed especially for Winter Wonderland.
Other favourite attractions making a return include Santa Land, a treat for young visitors where Father Christmas will be every day with his Elves and a sack of free gifts. A traditional German Christmas market with over 200 chalets, The Angels Christmas Market offers unusual and handmade gifts and crafts, including ceramics, candles, jewellery, wooden toys, nativity scenes and Christmas decorations.
The ever-popular Bavarian Village will be ready to serve traditional food and drink whilst hosting live music throughout the day and evening. In addition there are a large number of restaurants and bars available throughout the site. There is also a large number of rides both traditional and modern rides for adults and children of all ages.
Winter Wonderland really tends to covers all the bases and offers something for everyone, whether you like the more traditional approach or the more exciting rides and attractions. It is without doubt London’s premiere winter attraction and attracts considerable crowds at weekends and in the period just before Christmas.
