On a cold wet grey day, it was a pleasure to attend the RHS London Harvest Festival Show. The RHS run a series of London shows throughout the year and always offer plenty of ideas and inspiration for visitors.
The RHS London Harvest Festival Show concentrates on mainly fruit and vegetables with plenty of traditional harvest festival fare. Many of the tables were decked out with a wonderful selection of fruit and vegetables which formed part of the RHS Fruit & Vegetable Competitions. The competition is keen and top class produce is entered for the prestigious prizes. One of the largest prizes ( £1000) is for the heaviest pumpkin competition and a number of monster pumpkins are on show.
But the show is not just about competitions, there are a series of events to entertain the visitors.
Some of the highlights include:
The Two Thirsty Gardeners, demonstrating how to make homebrew cider
The opportunity to sample a range of delicious apples sourced from RHS Garden Wisley
The RHS London Harvest Late, which will take place on 6 October, features fun with fruit and vegetables including brewing & foraging, pumpkin carving, along with music and a host of natural food and drink from organic producers to taste and try.
If you feel that you need a gardening boost before winter sets in, the RHS London Harvest Festival Show is a great value for money event.
