Christmas at Selfridges – Oxford Street, London

Selfridges’ have adopted a storytelling theme for their Christmas window decorations, some best-loved fairy tales including Cinderella, Snow White and Hansel and Gretel  have inspired the award-winning Selfridges windows team.

This is fitting seen as the Oxford Street store has recently opened the world’s first department store cinema. During the festive season, the Everyman cinema at Selfridges will show a series of enchanted tale-based films including Pinocchio and It’s A Wonderful Life.

A  large centrepiece installation called Destination Christmas, atop the Oxford Street canopy is over 18 metres across by 10 metres tall and over 3 metres wide. It is  decorated with 1,000 metres of neon lights and over 10,000 LED lights.

Away from the exterior, there will be roaming Father Christmas between 28 November – 24 December in the store.  Also there will we a travelling literary circus entertaining families with interactive storytelling.

Selfridges’ is unusual that it has a department store cinema. Located on the lower ground of the Oxford Street store, the cinema seats 60 people and this Christmas, the schedule includes Christmas classics and new movies such as a sing-a-long screening of ‘Frozen’, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, ‘The Paddington Movie’ and ‘Pinocchio.

Between 22 October – Feb 2015 Le Chalet will be open , it is Selfridges’ rooftop restaurant will serve a delicious Alpine-inspired barbeque influenced-menu alongside a crab and shellfish bar. Situated on the terrace will be a log cabin with a hot chocolate bar.
