Tingle Creek Christmas Festival at Sandown Park – 5th and 6th December 2014

One of the most popular dates in the racing calendar, the Tingle Creek Christmas Festival offers two days of top-class racing at Sandown Park each December.

The first day of the 2-day meeting, on Friday 5th December, features a competitive card of racing and plenty of hospitality.

However the course gets really into the festive mood  on Saturday 6th December. The Tingle Creek Christmas Festival plays host to an exciting blend of activities for the whole family, alongside a race card full of equine stars there will be a huge array of children’s entertainment, as well as a delicious selection of homemade mince pies and mulled wine.

If you would like to  arrive in style? Horse drawn carriages will be running between Esher train station and the racecourse offering racegoers a  opportunity to enjoy a very traditional ride.

There is plenty of Children’s entertainment,  younger racegoers can visit Santa who will be handing out Christmas gifts from his festive grotto, whilst Robin Crusoe is the pantomime guaranteed to get the whole family laughing. There will also be festive carol singing after racing with the New London Singers to really get you into the Christmas spirit.

If you fancy a bit of shopping, there will be large selection of Christmas stalls, which are certain to have something for everyone.

Sandown Park is one of the most popular courses and the Tingle Creek offers one of the best Jumping racing days  which attracts many of the  best jump horses and jockeys.

London International Horse Show at Olympia – 16 to 22 December 2014

The London International Horse Show which takes place from 16 – 22 December  has become a  pre-Christmas tradition for those interested in the Equestrian world.

But it is not just world-class dressage and show jumping, the show offers a variety of entertainment including this year displays from the spectacular Ukrainian Cossack Stunt Riders and the breath-taking Metropolitan Police Activity Ride.

The show has  morning, afternoon and evening performances. Generally afternoon performances start at 12.30pm and Evening performances start at 6.30pm.  However due to timetabling the performances can start earlier so it is better to check the website near the time of your visit.

Tuesday 16 December – Shopping Village opens at 2.00pm.  Performance time 5.50pm – 10.30
Wednesday 17 December – Shopping Village opens at 2.00pm. Performance time 5:30pm – 10.45
Thursday 18 December – Shopping Village opens at 10am. Morning session: 11.30am. Afternoon Performance time 1:00pm – 4.25pm. Evening Performance time 6:15pm – 10.25

One of Olympia’s most loved parts of the Show is the Kennel Club Dog Agility competitions. These take place at each of the performances with different types of classes for each one. There is also a Shetland Pony Grand National , Shetland Ponies and their riders race round the arena at a fast and furious pace.

Olympia Horse Show has a huge Shopping Village with over 250 shops in it selling a massive range of goods from all things equestrian, to fashion, jewellery, wines, gifts, novelty items, and fine art.

UCI Track Cycling World Cup at the Lee Valley VeloPark – 5 to 7th December 2014

World class Cycling returns to the Lee Valley VeloPark for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in London from 5-7 December.

Round two of World Cup takes place at the Lee Valley VeloPark, host venue for London 2012, pitched against a very talented International field full of Olympic and world Champions, a strong Great Britain team will be fielded for the event including Phil Hindes, Jason Kenny, Steve Burke, Ed Clancy, Joanna Rowsell and Laura Trott who are all set to return to the venue where they were crowned Olympic champions.

Statoil Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall – 3rd to 7th December 2014

Since it began in 1997,the Statoil Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall has been a firm favourite with Tennis fans. It features some of the greatest tennis players of the modern era, reliving some of their rivalries in the iconic building.

Although there is fierce competition, there is plenty of fun and games amongst the competitiors, and on Sunday will feature the Mylan World TeamTennis Smash Hits charity match.

This evening session will feature the Mylan World TeamTennis Smash Hits charity match, being played outside of the US for the first time in its 22-year history, which is held to raise funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Sir Elton John and Billie Jean King will each be captaining a team, with McEnroe, Roddick, Henman, Kim Clijsters, Martina Hingis, Heather Watson, Jamie Murray and Sabine Lisicki all set to compete for their captains.

The format will see one set each of ladies’ singles, ladies’ doubles, men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles, with each set being played the first to five games. Team Elton is currently leading 11-10 in the series.

Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton at the Royal Albert Hall – 12 December 2014

After a hugely successful sell-out World Premiere performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2013, Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton will return to the Hall for two performances on December 12th .

These live concerts feature Danny Elfman’s famous Tim Burton film scores brought to life on stage by the London Concert Orchestra and the Maida Vale Singers conducted by John Mauceri, enhanced by visuals on the big screen of Burton’s original sketches, drawings and storyboards and will feature a special guest performance by Danny Elfman himself.

With a range of films from a fascinating back catalogue of classics including Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland and Frankenweenie, this concert explores the collaborative relationship between music and storytelling and the process and importance that this has in filmmaking.

Jeff Wayne’s The War of The Worlds at the O2 – 13th December 2014

The O2 plays host to Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds – Alive on Stage! on Saturday 13 December 2014 (matinee and evening). in a leg of the final arena tour on Saturday 13 December 2014 (matinee and evening).

Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds is making its sixth and final tour of UK Arenas.

Conducted by Jeff Wayne, the most ambitious production yet will feature Liam Neeson in 3D holography, Jason Donovan as Parson Nathaniel, Westlife’s Brian McFadden as The Sung Thoughts of The Journalist, X Factor 2005 winner Shayne Ward as the Artilleryman, Les Miserables’ Carrie Hope Fletcher as Beth, Parson Nathaniel’s Wife, X Factor 2013’s, Joseph Whelan, as The Voice of Humanity.

The show is mixed live in Surround Sound, features remarkable special effects, including the incredible 3-tonne 35-foot tall Martian Fighting Machine firing real flames into the Arena, a 100 foot wide “animation wall” with 2 hours of cutting edge CGI, the incineration of a cast member in front of the audience’s eyes, a ground-breaking levitation effect and much more!

The show is  based on Jeff Wayne’s double album was originally released in 1978. It  enjoyed huge success and critical acclaim across the globe with over 15 million records sold.

Reimagined for the theatre, there is a breathtaking new production of Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds at the Dominion Theatre, booking until 30th April 2016.
